The Quad Lock Honda team remains inside the top ten of the championship standings following Round 4 in Houston, a night that delivered both encouraging progress and unavoidable setbacks, according to Team Principal Martin Davalos.

“Nobody wants setbacks, but unfortunately they are part of a sport where riders compete without the protection of a cage,” said Davalos. “Joey showed real grit, racing the rest of the night with a broken big toe after his crash in Race 1.”

Round 4 marked the first Triple Crown of the season, a format that demands consistency across three main events after first qualifying for the final. With three points-paying races, the format offers increased opportunity, but also increased risk.

All three Quad Lock Honda riders qualified for the main event for the fourth consecutive round.

Race 1 proved costly for the team, with Christian Craig and Joey Savatgy both involved in separate incidents that forced them to fight back through the field. They finished 17th and 19th respectively, their toughest results of the season to date. Savatgy was clearly frustrated following the opening race.

“This isn’t how I envisioned the night going,” said Savatgy. “Breaking my toe in the first race made shifting really difficult.”

Shane McElrath completed Race 1 in 16th.

The momentum shifted in Races 2 and 3, where Christian Craig delivered his strongest performances of the season, finishing eighth in both races.

“Race 1 hurt my night, but I’m not dwelling on it,” said Craig. “Races 2 and 3 were a massive turnaround. I’ve been dealing with a few challenges, and when injuries and setbacks stack up, it’s easy to overthink things. The bike and the team have been great, and it was a big relief to finally show the pace I feel during the week.”

Despite racing in pain, Savatgy pushed through to finishes of 12th and 15th in Races 2 and 3, while McElrath completed the final two races in 18th position.

Davalos was encouraged by Craig’s progress and mindful of the challenges faced across the team.

“We see this speed from Christian every week, and tonight was important for him,” Davalos said. “For Joey, it’s disappointing to see him injured because we all know what he’s capable of. Shane has work to do, but our bikes are strong, and we’ve seen what he can deliver, especially late last season.”

“With a short turnaround before the next round, we’ll debrief, make some changes, and keep pushing forward.”

Round 5 of the AMA Supercross Championship is this coming weekend in Glendale.
