The American Women’s Motocross Championship returns this weekend alongside Round 2 of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, with Quad Lock Honda’s Charli Cannon preparing to once again line up against some of the fastest female racers in the world.

After finishing second overall during her first campaign in America, the 21-year-old Australian returns with greater experience, greater preparation and greater expectations.

But Cannon knows nothing will come easy.

The Women’s Championship has continued to grow rapidly, with increased participation, greater manufacturer support and more depth than ever before.

Last season proved one thing.

The level is rising.

“Last year we faced plenty of challenges. I had surgery only days before Round 1, I was learning new tracks every weekend and balancing huge amounts of travel between commitments,” said Cannon.

“This year feels different. I have been spending time training at MTF between my commitments in Australia and focusing on improving every area, fitness, technical riding and bike setup. I feel stronger, but I also have a lot of respect for the competition because the level keeps improving.”

Globally, women’s participation in both motorcycling and motorsport continues to rise.

Across different regions worldwide, female participation in motorcycling is estimated to represent between eight and fourteen percent of riders, while competition participation continues growing across Australia, Europe and North America.

The American Women’s Championship itself experienced significant growth last season, with larger fields, stronger competition and increased attention from teams, manufacturers and fans.

Quad Lock Honda Team Director Yarrive Konsky believes this growth is only the beginning.

“We are seeing genuine momentum. In Australia we are seeing significant growth in female participation and stronger entry numbers, and America continues moving in the same direction,” said Konsky.

“These athletes are doing something important. They are showing young girls and women what is possible on a motorcycle and creating pathways that simply didn’t exist years ago. The more visibility, professionalism and support we create, the stronger the future becomes.”

Quad Lock Honda will field three riders this weekend, with additional support from Progressive and Berry Sweet as the team continues expanding its investment in multiple categories.

Christian Craig enters Round 2 sitting 10th overall following a strong opening round and believes another week of testing will help close the gap to the riders ahead.

Kyle Webster also returns following a promising first round, looking to build on the experience gained during the opening round.

For Cannon, however, the objective is simple.

Return.

Fight.

And attempt to go one better.

Round 2 takes place this weekend at Prairie City SVRA in Rancho Cordova, California.
